Self-Deception

Self-Deception

We convincingly disguise ourselves in such elaborately clever ways that we are unable to detect who we really are. So much so that the other person wouldn’t have a prayer in being able decipher our beguiling masks of various shadows. We look in the mirror of familiarity which we have grown so securely comfortable with and trick our eyes into believing that the reflected image reveals us. Nothing could be further from the truth! We are capricious, inconspicuous liars who construct demonstrative alluring ploys and decrepit devices to deceive and deny any glint of a hint of genuine self-discovery. We do NOT want to know who we really are; and, we certainly won’t let the other get close enough to peer behind the veil of projected idiocy. We like standing in the shadows, waving a ‘catch me if you can’ banner for all to reckon with. While our true potential lies hideously repressed underneath the heavy rug of pretense laced with latent, unfulfilled dreams we dare not bring into the light of day. Cowards and con artists. We aspire to evade, elude and elicit just a dab of interest and intrigue from others. But woe unto those who dare to get too close. A dusty, well worn duffel bag stuffed with more smoke and mirror “now you see me, now you don’t” boring pranks lie in wait.
